Should I buy the Zoom RC?
Buy it if…
You’re a drone beginner
The beginner drone market is pretty much exploding with models, making picking the right one for you more difficult than ever before. But it’s safe to say that the Zoom RC is one of the best beginner models available.
You need manual camera control
Manual camera control and the ability to capture photos in raw format are rare for beginner drone models, but the Zoom RC is capable of both, as well as providing a 3-axis mechanical gimbal to stabilize up to 1080P video.
You’re on a budget
At just £ 125 for the Zoom RC Bundle, you get a comprehensive kit that includes everything you need for multiple drone flights in a single session.
Don’t buy it if…
You’re an advanced videographer
The Zoom RC is a fantastic drone, and the HD video it captures looks great, but with no ND filters available for controlling shutter speed when shooting video it’s impossible to achieve a correct shutter speed according to the 180-degree rule in brighter conditions.
You need a more powerful drone
Larger drone models typically provide more power, and the ability to fly in stronger winds. The Zoom RC has a level 6 wind resistance rating (up to 24mph) and it performs well in winds above 20 ph, but for more stable flight in stronger winds consider the Air 3 or one of the Mavic 3 models.
We Bought and Tested the Most Popular Drones, Here’s Why Zoom RC Is Our #1 Pick.
Summary: Buying an affordable drone no longer means losing out on all the latest features and capabilities. During our testing, we found that the Zoom RC was able to match or even exceed the performance of expensive “big brand” drones.
The Zoom RC is currently on sale at for a limited time on their website.
Flying drones has been my passion for ten years. I first started flying RC helicopters as a hobby in 2014 and as technology advanced I gradually moved on to micro drones and all other newer models.
During this time, I’ve also been lucky enough to try out high-end drones like the Inspire 2, so I can confidently say that I’ve experienced what the market has to offer.
While these high-end drones are great fun to fly, they are also difficult to control and very expensive.
Imagine crashing a thousands-dollar drone on your first try as a beginner? This will be heartbreaking !
However, the problem with cheaper drones is that while they are easy to use, their cameras are often of poor quality!
So when I was assigned to review Zoom RC and saw that it only cost £ 125, I thought it was going to be another crap drone with poor performance and quality. But after testing it a few times Then I realized how wrong I was!
The Zoom RC turns out to be a top-notch drone with amazing features for beginners and even enthusiasts like me.
My First Impression
My package arrived within 10 days of ordering, which already puts me in a good mood. There’s nothing worse than buying something new online and waiting weeks for it to arrive, so so far I’m happy with the delivery process from this company.
After opening the package, I picked up the Zoom RC in my hand and was immediately confused. The drone I’m holding feels like a £500 drone. The materials, matte texture, robustness and build quality remind me of all the high-end drone models I’ve tested. The packaging is very high quality and perfect for gift giving. After testing it, I immediately bought some for my friends
We’ve all experienced the difference between a cheap or fragile product and a high-quality product, whether it’s a camera, a robot vacuum, or a mobile phone. The drone is no different and this product feels and looks amazing.
Design
Zoom RC compared to all the “cheap” drones I’ve tested. The biggest problem with these “cheap” drone is that they’re not actually built for speed or durability. Sure, you can fly them at low altitudes in perfect weather conditions, but once above 200 feet they lose signal and fall.
When I took a closer look at the build quality of the Zoom RC, I was immediately impressed by the strength and stability of the rotors and arms. This drone is so compact that I can fold it easily, which means I can take it anywhere with ease.
I started reading more information about the drone in the manual and my jaw dropped when I saw the transmission range was 3 kilometers. That’s 1.8 miles!
Can this company really design a drone with such a long transmission range?
If this were true, it would be on par with expensive models from big brands. I was still a bit skeptical and continued my investigation.
Control
The controller feels very comfortable in the hand. It’s ergonomically sound and I had absolutely no trouble doing long flights. The buttons are springy and easy to press.
The joystick feels similar to a game controller, with plenty of resistance and precision. The controller also features a retractable phone holder.
Combined with the design of the foldable drone, I can see that the creators really wanted to make this drone easy to transport and use anywhere. I think this is a huge advantage.
The Zoom RC even has a mobile app that allows you to control the drone from your phone. Of course, you can also control the drone with the remote control without using your mobile phone. I think there is no reason not to bring a drone now.
I experimented more with drone control and discovered some really cool features. One of them is the ability to fly a drone from your phone, making it super intuitive and beginner-friendly. It’s really as easy as playing a mobile game.
Some other standout features include pre-programmed 360-degree camera movement, slow-motion recording, automatic takeoff, and one-touch landing.
Testing
It was finally time to test the capabilities of this drone. The features I outlined earlier are all great, but they mean little if the drone doesn’t perform as promised.
The three most important features of a high-end drone are camera quality, transmission range, and control responsiveness, so that was the focus of my testing.
After charging the drone, I headed to the nearest park, connected my phone and pressed the auto-takeoff button.
The drone flew straight up, hovering steadily above me.
I think this test is very important, especially for beginners. I remember many years ago when I was flying my first drone, I could easily lose control of it.
This test shows that even beginners can get this drone in the air without any stress. perfect.
For my next test, I flew a little higher and tested some tight turns to see how the drone responded to my controls. Some of the cheaper drones I’ve tested before have had a lot of trouble with input lag and unresponsiveness, but not the Zoom RC.
It does feel very similar to the £500~ model I tested, with the only minor difference being the advanced scrolling action. So far, so good.
To my surprise, the transmission distance was also as promised! I was able to fly 1.8 miles without losing signal. It’s so far away that I’ve forgotten where the drone is, so it’s definitely far enough!
In addition to the one-button return-to-home function, this drone also has a low-battery automatic return-to-home function, so you don’t have to worry about losing it.
Paired with the anti-collision sensor, you can use your drone for extended periods of time without any issues.
The camera quality of this drone easily rivals the big expensive brands. I was able to take beautiful photos and videos during my testing. Unlike other cheaper drones, the footage is very stable and clear.
Surprisingly, after all my testing, I checked the battery and it was still at 20%! I had over 20 minutes of intense flight time and footage and still had some energy left. However, in order to enjoy the flight for a longer time, I bought two extra batteries as replacements.
How are Zoom RC different from other products?
What is the best drone for beginners?
The Zoom RC is toppickspot’s first choice for its ultra-HD recording, ease of use and long-lasting battery. Intelligent obstacle avoidance and functions usable on mobile phones are very useful for novices. There are also detailed operation instruction videos, which are very helpful for novices to get started.
After a few days of testing this drone and all of it’s features, I can confidently say that you cannot compare it with anything in it’s price class. This drone truly rivals the quality and performance of big brand names that cost £300+. Here’s some reasons why the Zoom RC is superior :
HD Camera and Filming Features: The Ultra HD camera is incredible on it’s own, but coupled with the pre-programmed camera modes you will be able to capture every moment with ease. With just a press of a button, the drone can take slow motion footage or do a full 360 capture of it’s environment.
Battery Life: Nothing worse than setting up to get some footage just to have your drone run out of battery quickly. The Zoom RC is lightweight with superior battery capacity which means you can fly twice as long as the competition.
High-Tech Anti Collision Software: The in built sensors can detect when the drone is too close to the ground or any other obstacle and change flying course automatically to avoid a crash. You wouldn’t want to accidentally break your drone, and this safety feature makes sure it stays safe.
Mobile and Durable: The drone is very compact and portable while having incredibly sturdy design and top tier build quality. Bring the drone anywhere and always be ready to take some amazing footage.
Silent Motor: Thanks to the very efficient engine and aerodynamic design the Zoom RC is able to achieve high speeds while keeping noise levels low.
